Softball Recap: Steinbrenner Victorious

With a playoff win on the line, Steinbrenner rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Wharton Wildcats. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.

Lilly Patton spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jenna Fortenberry, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Emily Kuba also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Steinbrenner's record is now 18-7. As for Wharton, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-12.

Looking ahead, Steinbrenner will take on Wiregrass Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulls will roll in looking for their 19th straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. Wharton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
