Football Recap: Clovis West Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Clovis West extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 5-1. They walked away with a 28-21 win over the Clovis East Timberwolves. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Golden Eagles were down 21-7 in the second quarter.

A big part of Clovis West's win came down to the chemistry between Jamar (JJ) Howard and his top target Relando Jefferson. Howard threw for 281 yards and four touchdowns while Jefferson picked up 128 receiving yards and one score.

As for Clovis East, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2. They were up 21-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

When it comes to explaining why Clovis East lost, don't look at Jamie Spurgeon. Despite the final result, he rushed for 89 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, and also threw for 119 yards and one touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Clovis West will challenge rival Buchanan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Clovis East is set to face off against their familiar foe Central East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Spurgeon and Jelani Dippel.
