Softball Recap: Erie Royals vs. Fairview Tigers
Erie couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Fairview Tigers by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Erie of the 19-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.
Norah DeRooy and Bella Oosterkamp stepped up to the plate in a big way. DeRooy scored two runs while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances, while Oosterkamp scored a run while going 2-for-5. Hannah Nicklas was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
On Fairview's side, Taylor Polach was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Szklenski, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Erie will look to defend their home field on Thursday against North East at 4:30 p.m. Fairview will take on Seneca at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
