Baseball Preview: Mohave Accelerated Patriots vs. Highland Prep West HORNETS

The Mohave Accelerated Patriots will face off against the Highland Prep West HORNETS at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Mohave Accelerated made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Kingman Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Patriots blew past the Tigers 14-4 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Jacek Smogoleski was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Mohave Accelerated got a big performance out of Jerry Torres, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Martin Abundiz, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Mohave Accelerated always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Highland Prep West beat Maryvale Prep 10-7 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the HORNETS.

Tristan Arenet was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI. Highland Prep West is 2-1 when Arenet posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Lewis, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

The win was the third in a row for Mohave Accelerated, bringing their record up to 3-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Highland Prep West, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
