Baseball Recap: Merkel Comes Up Short

If Merkel was feeling good fresh off their 12-0 takedown of San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Badgers lost 17-5 to the Sweetwater Mustangs on Thursday. The Badgers have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Merkel saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trey Alexander, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another was Mayson Prieto, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Merkel's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10-1. As for Sweetwater, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season.

While Merkel had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
