Basketball Recap: Ellicott Extends Road Winning Streak to Three

Ellicott's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They walked away with a 41-29 victory over the La Junta Tigers. The Thunderhawks haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marlie Gonzales, who posted eight points along with six steals and five rebounds. Gonzales is becoming a predictor of La Junta's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 5-2 (and 4-8 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Aragon, who had seven points and five boards.

Ellicott's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points over those games. As for La Junta, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ellicott will square off against Manitou Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for La Junta, they will take on Florence at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. La Junta is facing Florence at the right time seeing as Florence is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
