Basketball Recap: St. Brendan Comes Up Short

St. Brendan and Northwestern squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but St. Brendan had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Northwestern Bulls, falling 56-14. While losing is never fun, the Sabres can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 315th, while the Bulls are ranked 79th).

Claudia Luis was St. Brendan's leading scorer, having posted four points.

Northwestern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Myah Newton, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. Newton is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Tayana Dixon was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.

St. Brendan has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for Northwestern, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-4.

St. Brendan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northwestern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Boynton Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northwestern's defense has only allowed 29 points per game this season, so Boynton Beach's offense will have their work cut out for them.
