Basketball Recap: Pendleton County Comes Up Short

Pendleton County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a blow against the Spring Valley Timberwolves on Saturday, falling 76-45. The Wildcat were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-18.

Pendleton County's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Owens, who shot 42% from the field on his way to 15 points. The game was Owens' fourth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaydon Hess, who went 5-for-9 en route to 10 points and four steals.

Harrison Riggs had another great game (as he tends to do), almost dropping a triple-double with 27 points, 13 boards, and nine assists for Spring Valley. Riggs is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 40 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Gavin Perdue, who shot 62% from the field to rack up 21 points and five assists.

Pendleton County's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Spring Valley, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-10.

Coming up, Pendleton County will welcome East Hardy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spring Valley, they will head out to square off against Wayne at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Timberwolves will need to watch out since the Pioneers have now posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
