Baseball Recap: Hamilton Big Blue vs. Colerain Cardinals
Hamilton extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They lost 8-0 to the Colerain Cardinals. The Big Blue were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
As for Colerain, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.
For Colerain's part, Caleb Hesse made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Hesse was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since April 2nd.
In other batting news, Devin Moeung and Craig Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Moeung went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Smith went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Moeung is becoming a predictor of Colerain's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't).
