Basketball Recap: Cass Antoine Key Part of a Team Effort in Cougars Win

Edna Karr hadn't done well against Amite recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Edna Karr Cougars strolled past the Amite Warriors with points to spare, taking the game 71-54. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 69-40 victory the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Edna Karr's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cass Antoine, who posted 17 points. The matchup was Antoine's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanaa Bean, who earned 14 points.

Amite lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kayla Toefield, who had 14 points along with eight assists and four steals. Toefield has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Shamaya Walker, who scored eight points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Edna Karr's win bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Amite, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

When Edna Karr and Amite next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Edna Karr will try to stop Mt. Carmel's eight-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Amite will face off against Mandeville and their three-game winning streak at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
