Baseball Game Preview: Mendon Vikings vs. Rye Garnets

The Mendon Vikings will take on the Rye Garnets at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Mendon sitting on seven straight victories and Rye on four.

Mendon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Amherst Central a 1-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since May 7th.

Not much got past Cam Barbulean, who gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks to keep Amherst Central off the board. Barbulean has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Samuel Harrigan was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Mendon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Rye faced La Salle Institute in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Garnets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cadets, sneaking past 6-4.

Mendon's victory bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Rye, their win bumped their record up to 23-4.
