Softball Recap: Liberty Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Liberty's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They put the hurt on the Independence Knights with a sharp 16-0 victory. Considering the Redhawks have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison Hanson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Terry, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ainslee Palmer, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Independence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Liberty is set to face off against their familiar foe Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Independence will take on rival Frisco at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
