Softball Game Preview: Spokane Owls vs. Marionville Comets

Spokane hasn't had much luck against Marionville recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Spokane will look to defend their home field against Marionville at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

On Tuesday, Spokane made easy work of Galena and carried off a 29-19 victory.

Sarah Essick was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Carr, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Spokane always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Marionville got the win against Reeds Spring on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-4.

Ashlin Carr made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Marionville let Maggie Murphy and Annaliyah Ghan run wild. Murphy went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one double, while Ghan scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Those two triples gave Murphy a new career-high. Hannah Oczkus was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Marionville's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Spokane, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
