Softball Recap: Haven's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Haven has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.25 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They fell just short of the Halstead Dragons by a score of 10-9. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Avery Brawner was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits. Brawner was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Mayzie Warden made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Sophia Faidley was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

Haven's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Halstead, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Dragons beat Haven by a score of 8-5 later that day.
