Basketball Game Preview: St. Albans Red Dragons vs. Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles

St. Albans and Woodrow Wilson are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The St. Albans Red Dragons will face off against the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

St. Albans fought the good fight in their overtime game against Spring Valley on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 62-60.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Samyah Riggan, who shot 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaycee Elzy, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards.

While Woodrow Wilson didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past PikeView 68-66. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Flying Eagles have posted since December 14, 2023.

St. Albans better keep an eye on Abby Dillon. She was instrumental in Woodrow Wilson's win, going 7 of 15 en route to 23 points. Zoey Williams was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Woodrow Wilson's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for St. Albans, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season.

St. Albans suffered a grim 55-32 defeat to Woodrow Wilson in their previous meeting back in January of 2020. Can St. Albans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
