Keystone Heights hasn't had much luck against Oakleaf recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Keystone Heights Indians are taking a road trip to square off against the Oakleaf Knights at 7:00 p.m. Keystone Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
While Keystone Heights' victory against Palatka wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Keystone Heights skirted past Palatka 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.
Keystone Heights let Andrew Wilson and Guage Barry run wild. Wilson scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Barry scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Destin Harnage also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Oakleaf scored first but ultimately less than Bolles in their contest on Thursday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 13-7.
Oakleaf got a massive performance out of Jay Arzuaga-Flores, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Arzuaga-Flores a new career-high in RBI (three). JP Espinosa was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4.
Even though they lost, Oakleaf always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matchups.
Keystone Heights' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of four runs across that stretch. As for Oakleaf, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Keystone Heights has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Oakleaf struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Keystone Heights might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Oakleaf when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can Keystone Heights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
