Softball Recap: Martin Comes Up Short

Martin extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They came up short against the Plainwell Trojans, falling 15-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-6 on Friday.

As for Plainwell, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-20. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games.

For Plainwell's part, Samantha McDaniel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. McDaniel has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Heidi Ragainis was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Madison Seibert was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Martin has already played their next game (against Saugatuck), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Plainwell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 15-0 defeat against Paw Paw on the 12th.
