Basketball Recap: Alexander Central Takes a Loss

Alexander Central suffered their biggest defeat since December 17, 2024 on Friday. They were outmatched by the Freedom Patriots and fell 72-44. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-18.

Despite the loss, Alexander Central still got an impressive performance from Jayon Connor, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Connor's evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Garison Millsaps, who posted five points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Alexander Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Alexander Central's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9. As for Freedom, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alexander Central will venture away from home to challenge Ashe County at 8:00 p.m. on January 31st. Alexander Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season. Freedom has already played their next contest (against Hickory), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
