Basketball Recap: Lawrence Free State Find Success

Lawrence Free State won the last time they faced East and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Lawrence Free State Firebirds walked away with a 69-62 victory over the East Aces.

East's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylen Phillips-Grey, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. Phillips-Grey has become a key player for East: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 15 points, but 8-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ismael Berry, who shot 45% from the field on his way to 19 points along with five boards and three steals.

The win got Lawrence Free State back to even at 9-9-1. As for East, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Looking ahead, Lawrence Free State will head out to face off against Derby at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Derby knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 21 contests -- so hopefully Lawrence Free State likes a good challenge. East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
