Preview: Charleston Trojans vs. Newton Eagles
The Charleston Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Newton Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Charleston is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, Charleston lost to St. Anthony at home by a decisive 50-36 margin. While losing is never fun, Charleston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 269th, while St. Anthony is ranked 115th).
Despite their defeat, Charleston saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tyler Oakley, who scored 11 points, was perhaps the best of all. The match was Oakley's third in a row with at least ten points. Luke Bonnstetter was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Newton came up short against Fairfield on Saturday and fell 60-51.
Charleston's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Newton, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Charleston came up short against Newton when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 63-58. Can Charleston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
