Basketball Recap: Bishop Machebeuf Comes Up Short

Bishop Machebeuf lost against Lyons back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Bishop Machebeuf Buffaloes took a 47-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lyons Lions.

Despite the defeat, Bishop Machebeuf saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Justina Cichos dropped a double-double with 16 boards and 12 steals. The dominant performance gave Cichos a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Penelope Mikita, who posted 13 points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Bishop Machebeuf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Lyons found their leader in sophomore Ava Vasquez, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds. The contest was Vasquez's third in a row with at least 16 points. Leora Hagan was another key player, going 5-for-9 on her way to 12 points.

Bishop Machebeuf has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. Lyons pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Bishop Machebeuf will face off against SkyView Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lyons, they will host Union Colony Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lyons is facing Union Colony Prep at the right time seeing as Union Colony Prep is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
