League recap: Coal Ridge scores huge upset over Olathe

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Olathe, who took down 123rd ranked Olathe, 13-6.

Bayfield's Michael Hawkins rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A Western this season in his game against Aspen last week. Hawkins ran for 83 yards on the play and finished with 93 on the day as his team defeated the Skiers.

Basalt's dynamic duo of Matt Williams and Andrade Josh proved tough for Pagosa Springs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Williams threw for 118 yards and 29 touchdowns and Josh had 84 yards receiving. Tim Johnson helped Basalt's passing attack out by catching one ball for 29 yards.

TJ Pazell was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 216 yards on 16 carries as Bayfield topped the Pirates.

Thanks to the talents of Tyler Scott and Tanner Zimmerman Grand Valley has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Scott leads the league in passing with 360 yards, while Zimmerman has rushed for 377 yards this season. Basalt's Josh leads the league in receiving yards with 218 on 11 catches.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Grand Valley takes on second place Bayfield. The Cardinals topped Gunnison last week, while Gary Heide's team defeated Aspen.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Grand Valley takes on the Wolverines. The Cardinals have allowed 46 points this season, while Bayfield has given up 31. Grand Valley allowed 20 points last week as it beat the Cowboys.

Coal Ridge moved up to 111 from 138 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A Western. The Titans climbed the ranks as a result of a 13-6 win over the Pirates.
