Softball Recap: Pine Valley Central Takes a Loss

Pine Valley Central extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-9. They lost 24-0 to the Forestville Central Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 back in April.

Pine Valley Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Victoria Erickson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That double was Erickson's first of the season.

As for Forestville Central, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Forestville Central's side, Alexandra Kerstetter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Kerstetter has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Schwerk, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Lillie, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pine Valley Central will face off against Silver Creek at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Black Knights' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Forestville Central, they will challenge Fredonia at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
