Baseball Recap: Liberty Magnet Gets the Win

On Friday, the Liberty Magnet Patriots beat the Independence Tigers 7-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Seth Trosclair was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tavarius Brown, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Daniel Sanchez, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Liberty Magnet was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Liberty Magnet's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty Magnet will head out to face off against East Iberville at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Liberty Magnet's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so East Iberville's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Independence, they are taking a road trip to square off against St. Helena College and Career Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Monday.
