Basketball Recap: Amherst County Takes a Loss

Amherst County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 61-49 loss to the Charlottesville Black Knights. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-46 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Amherst County lost, don't look at Holt Bresach. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 12 on his way to 16 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Those 16 points gave Bresach a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cameron Jackson, who posted four points.

Amherst County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Charlottesville, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Amherst County will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. As for Charlottesville, they will head out to challenge Monticello at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monticello is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season.
