Softball Game Preview: Westminster Lions vs. El Diamante Miners

The Westminster Lions will challenge the El Diamante Miners at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

If Westminster beats El Diamante with ten runs on Saturday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Lions never let Tustin get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Westminster got a massive performance out of Naomi Miranda, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave Miranda a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Alvarez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Westminster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, El Diamante got the win against Porterville on Thursday by a conclusive 10-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Miners.

Maya Moore tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mikayla Moreno was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Taelyn Ochoa, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Westminster's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for El Diamante, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7-1.
