Basketball Game Preview: Poth Pirates vs. Goliad Tigers

The Poth Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Goliad Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Goliad is hoping to do what Karnes City couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Poth's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Poth took their game with ease, bagging a 62-17 win over Karnes City. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 413th, while the Badgers are ranked 1165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Goliad humbled Nixon-Smiley with a 43-16 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Goliad is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-14 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27 points. As for Poth, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.

Poth couldn't quite finish off Goliad in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 and fell 39-36. Can Poth avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
