Baseball Preview: Maiden Blue Devils vs. West Lincoln Rebels
The Maiden Blue Devils will challenge the West Lincoln Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maiden has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Maiden came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Hickory, falling 14-7. One positive for the Blue Devils, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Ethan Whittaker and Brycen James did some serious damage despite the final result: Whittaker scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while James scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits James has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Williams, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for West Lincoln's offense. They fell 5-0 to R-S Central on Wednesday. The loss continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Hilltoppers: they've now lost three in a row.
West Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Maiden, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
