The Katy Taylor Mustangs opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-40 loss to the Tompkins Falcons. The Mustangs' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it seven in a row.

Katy Taylor's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Tompkins, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-13.

Katy Taylor and Tompkins could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Katy Taylor (ranked 642nd) will meet Mayde Creek (ranked 303rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Tompkins will square off against Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 320 places (331 vs. 11).
