Basketball Game Preview: Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers vs. Broome Centurions

Blue Ridge is 4-0 against Broome since January of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers will take on the Broome Centurions in a tournament on Monday. Blue Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.

Broome is hoping to do what Chapman couldn't on Saturday: put an end to Blue Ridge's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Blue Ridge walked away with a 47-36 victory over Chapman.

Blue Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Opal Maralit, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 16 points along with six boards and three steals. Maralit is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Talia Maxwell, who posted eight points in addition to eight boards and six steals.

Blue Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on SaturdayBroome capped 2024 with a 41-39 victory over Landrum. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Centurions.

Broome's win came from a few key players Blue Ridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dakota Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Those 18 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kourtney Wofford, who posted eight points along with 11 steals and five assists.

Broome's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Blue Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Blue Ridge was able to grind out a solid victory over Broome in their previous matchup back in January, winning 55-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Blue Ridge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
