Softball Game Preview: Bayfront Charter Sharks vs. Mar Vista Mariners

The Bayfront Charter Sharks will head out on the road to take on the Mar Vista Mariners at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Bayfront Charter will be strutting in after a victory while Mar Vista will be coming in after a defeat.

Bayfront Charter will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Ocean View Christian on Thursday. The Sharks put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 14-2 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Sharks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Ariana Carbajal spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ahloni Garcia and Carolina Vidrio did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs, while Vidrio went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Vidrio's first of the season. Anahi Del Rosario was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bayfront Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Mar Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Helix.

Mar Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Bayfront Charter, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-10.

Bayfront Charter suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Mar Vista in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Sharks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
