Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Benton's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Benton won the last time they faced St. Pius X and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Benton Cardinals walked away with a 59-48 victory over the St. Pius X Warriors. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Warriors are ranked 125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Pius X lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Hayley Tischinski, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. Tischinski continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Sell, who put up 15 points and eight boards.

Benton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.2 points per game. As for St. Pius X, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

Benton will face off against Smithville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Pius X, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Savannah at 6:00 p.m. on February 11th.
