Western starts season with loss at home

Western couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Clay Panthers by a score of 10-9 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Western of the 5-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

For Clay's part, Sarah Cassidy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Cassidy was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
