Football Game Preview: James Monroe Mavericks vs. Narrows Green Waves

The James Monroe Mavericks are taking a road trip to face off against the Narrows Green Waves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Narrows took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on James Monroe, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, James Monroe got the win against Liberty by a conclusive 42-21. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mavericks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Raiders are ranked 85th).

Meanwhile, Narrows played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Giles, falling 38-8. The Green Waves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 24-0.

James Monroe will have to contain Cooper Helvey as he made an impact in Narrows' last game. He rushed for 134 yards and one touchdown. With that strong performance, Helvey is now averaging an impressive 106.2 rushing yards per game.

This is the second loss in a row for Narrows and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for James Monroe, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Everything came up roses for James Monroe against Narrows in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 34-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
