Football Recap: Oxnard Comes Up Short

Oxnard extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-4. They were dealt a 41-12 loss at the hands of the Rio Mesa Spartans. The Yellowjackets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 20-0.

When it comes to explaining why Oxnard lost, don't look at Jayven Aranda. Despite the final result, he picked up 60 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 25 yards and one TD.

Rio Mesa's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Alec Fontyn had a dynamite game, rushing for 66 yards and three scores on only seven carries, while also throwing for 170 yards and one TD. A healthy portion of that aerial production (98 yards to be exact) went to Silas Petty.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxnard will take on Camarillo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets will be up against the Scorpions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 25.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. After each having a week off, Rio Mesa and Westlake will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The Warriors' defense has only allowed 8.2 points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them.
