Basketball Recap: Highland Park Takes a Loss

Highland Park lost against McLean back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Highland Park Hornets had to suffer through a 75-37 loss at the hands of the McLean Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1195th, while the Tigers are ranked 208th).

McLean's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kasidy Russell led the charge by going 12 for 23 on her way to 31 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards. Russell is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Hailo Moon was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds.

Highland Park's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for McLean, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Highland Park will face off against Bovina at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for McLean, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-37 victory against Wildorado on the 7th.
