Football Recap: Davidson Starts off Right with Win over Murphy

Davidson had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They really took it to the Murphy Panthers for the full four quarters, racking up a 35-6 win. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Davidson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Micah Spivey out in front who rushed for 107 yards and two scores on only 12 carries, and also threw for 71 yards and one touchdown. Deshawn Nash was another key rusher, rushing for 160 yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Davidson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 343 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 179 rushing yards in 11 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Davidson's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Jeremy Arendall was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.

Davidson and Murphy will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Warriors are set to take on their familiar foe Baker at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. Meanwhile, Murphy will challenge rival McGill-Toolen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
