Basketball Recap: Marshall Continues Road Dominance on Monday

Marshall won the last time they faced Burton and things went their way on Monday too. The Marshall Phoenix walked away with a 51-42 win over the Burton Pumas. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Phoenix.

Marshall's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaelil Travis, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine steals. Travis has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayvion Lawrence, who posted 16 points and six boards.

Marshall was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Marshall pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Burton, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-15.

Marshall won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against June Jordan School of Equity at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Burton, they will square off against City Arts and Leadership Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
