Football Recap: Rio Hondo Prep Piles Up the Points Against Marquez + How To Watch

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rio Hondo Prep). They breezed past the Marquez Gladiators to the tune of 49-20 on Friday. Given the Kares' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 189th, while the Gladiators are ranked 649th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rio Hondo Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Yanick Diaz, who threw for 147 yards and three TDs. Those 147 passing yards gave Diaz a new career-high. Deven Gomez helped Diaz out on the ground, rushing for 55 yards and one score on only five carries.

Rio Hondo Prep didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Landon Scott and Christian Lee.

The victory keeps Rio Hondo Prep at an undefeated 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.5 points on average this season. As for Marquez, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rio Hondo Prep will venture away from home to square off against Bellflower at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Marquez, they will challenge La Puente at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Gladiators will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
