Baseball Recap: Ballston Spa's Undefeated Season over After Nine Games

Ballston Spa fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Bethlehem Central on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The result was an unpleasant reminder to them of the 4-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Kyle Fives was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ballston Spa saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Pritchard, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Another was Doug Chamberlain, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Ballston Spa fell to 8-1. As for Bethlehem Central, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Ballston Spa is taking a road trip to challenge La Salle Institute at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Scotties 2.4, the Cadets 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Bethlehem Central, they will be playing at home against Shaker at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
