Basketball Game Preview: West Pioneers vs. Northwest Grizzlies

West hasn't had much luck against Northwest recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The West Pioneers are taking a road trip to take on the Northwest Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m.

West is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Friday. They had to suffer through a 68-30 loss at the hands of Kapaun Mt. Carmel. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Crusaders are ranked 37th).

Meanwhile, Northwest entered their tilt with Bishop Carroll on Friday with six consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with seven. They walked away with a 67-56 victory over the Golden Eagles.

Northwest's win came from a few key players West will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Elijah Benning, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten assists. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of River Peters, who went 7-for-16 to rack up 17 points and eight boards.

Northwest pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for West, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Things could have been worse for West, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 66-52 loss to Northwest in their previous matchup back in January. Can West avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
