Caldera and Mountain View are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. Caldera will face off against Mountain View at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
On Wednesday, Caldera didn't have quite enough to beat Ridgeview and fell 10-9. Caldera has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Morgan Voll made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Elie Hall, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
While Mountain View didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Summit a 16-0 shutout on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Storm: they've now won eight in a row.
Cadence Kennedy was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Lea Sweeney also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Mountain View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Mountain View pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Caldera, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Caldera has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Caldera came out on top in a nail-biter against Mountain View in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Caldera since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
