Basketball Game Preview: Glenvar Highlanders vs. Floyd County Buffaloes

The Glenvar Highlanders will square off against the Floyd County Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Glenvar took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They snuck past Radford with a 56-50 victory. While the Highlanders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Floyd County unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 78-66 to Carroll County. While losing is never fun, the Buffaloes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 35th).

Glenvar's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Floyd County, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-2.

Glenvar came up short against Floyd County in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 64-58. Can Glenvar avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
