Fisher Catholic hasn't had much luck against Berne Union recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Irish will look to defend their home field against the Rockets at 5:15 p.m. Fisher Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Berne Union will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Fisher Catholic extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Irish put the hurt on Fairfield Christian Academy with a sharp 19-1 win. The Irish's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Olivia Haynes made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Vanessa Funk was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Beaseau, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Fisher Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Berne Union unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 12-3 to Grove City Christian. The game marked the Rockets' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Aleah Smiley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Berne Union's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Fisher Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fisher Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Berne Union struggles in that department as they've averaged .517. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
