Baseball Game Preview: Bishop Brossart Mustangs vs. Mason County Royals

The Bishop Brossart Mustangs will challenge the Mason County Royals at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Brossart's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Mason County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Mason County will be up against a hot Bishop Brossart squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Mustangs skirted past Newport Central Catholic 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted against the Thoroughbreds since April 27, 2017.

Alex Noe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Keagen Gulley was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Aidan Schultz, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Mason County never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Augusta. The win continues a trend for the Royals in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.

Bishop Brossart pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mason County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.

Bishop Brossart suffered a grim 16-3 defeat to Mason County when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
