Baseball Recap: Floyd Comes Up Short

Floyd extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 1-10. They came up short against the Dora Coyotes, falling 14-2. The Broncos were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Coyotes earlier this season, when they won 15-11.

Adan Nieto was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.

As for Dora, they pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

On Dora's side, Isaac Jasso made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). Jasso has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Trevin Niece and Charlie Love did most of the damage at the plate: Niece went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs, while Love went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Love is becoming a predictor of Dora's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Preston Williamson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Floyd will challenge Melrose at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Buffaloes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.94 runs per game on average), something the Broncos will no doubt try to take advantage of. Dora does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
