Basketball Recap: Gordon-Rushville's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Gordon-Rushville's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 56-44 victory over the Mullen Broncos. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Gordon-Rushville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Daniel Martins out in front who went 10 for 16 en route to 23 points along with seven boards and six assists. Braylon Holston was another key player, going 8 of 11 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.

Gordon-Rushville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Several Broncos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ben Werner, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Werner, who posted nine points.

Gordon-Rushville moved to 4-10 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Mullen, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Gordon-Rushville has already played their next match, a 63-14 loss against Chadron on the 25th. As for Mullen, they will be taking part in a tournament against Twin Loup at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
