Basketball Game Preview: Spearville Lancers vs. South Gray Rebels

Spearville hasn't had much luck against South Gray recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Spearville Lancers will welcome the South Gray Rebels at 8:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Spearville is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Ashland: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Spearville blew Ashland out of the water with an 80-16 final score. The Lancers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 22 points or more this season.

Spearville relied on the efforts of Ian Melendez, who went 13-for-15 to rack up 32 points, and Danny Alcala, who went 6-for-7 on his way to 21 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Alcala has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Josh Kolbeck, who had five points along with seven assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, South Gray entered their tilt with Meade on Monday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 63-55 victory over the Buffaloes.

Spearville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.2 points. As for South Gray, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
