Softball Recap: Northside Takes a Loss

Northside extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 2-8. They fell 9-5 to the Lamar Warriors. The Grizzlies were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Amariah Greene and Yazmin Freeman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Greene went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Freeman went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Those RBI marked the first that Greene has brought in this season.

As for Lamar, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.

On Lamar's side, Newt Melton made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Melton has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Shae Shook was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayci Hilton, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Northside will challenge Springdale at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.44 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lamar, they will take on Mansfield at 10:39 a.m. on Tuesday.
