Softball Game Preview: Killingly Trailblazers vs. Ledyard Colonels

The Killingly Trailblazers will head out on the road to take on the Ledyard Colonels at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Killingly will be strutting in after a win while Ledyard will be coming in after a defeat.

Killingly took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against East Lyme, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trailblazers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Vikings on Friday. With that win, the Trailblazers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Loretta Lannon, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jayden Durand, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Ledyard's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 8-3 to Norwich Free Academy. The game marked the Colonels' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Faith Dalton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleecia Helme, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Ledyard's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Killingly, their record is now 6-3.

Killingly suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Ledyard when the teams last played on Wednesday. Can the Trailblazers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
